Backstory

I lived a long time unconscious of my backstory. I guess most of us do. It can be a dispersed and painful state. Mine held drama, shame, doubt and chronic insecurity.

I didn’t understand where it all seemed from until I started to excavate my backstory. It might have begun when I was five and our upstairs neighbour took me on a drive in his blue Volvo. It’s a story I wish I didn’t remember.

Decades went by before I found the words and courage to express what happened. It is the kind of story we have come to know as #metoo. A movement I am grateful for, for the way it’s opened my eyes and heart to those – too many of us – who harbour life stories like these. Read More . . .

My emails are a roundup of Life & Memoir stories and lessons. I love a good email conversation. To me, emails stand as the last frontier of sharing our life by writing. It is like writing letters. Journaling and letter writing was two of my favourite things to do when I backpacked through Australia and South-East Asia in the early 90s. That’s when I meet S. Email is the most intimate we can be with each other, over distance, through written words. If you like my writing you will love my emails. Get them here and I’ll see you, within minutes, in your inbox. I am grateful you are here. 🧑

This is my circle of creative friends. While many of us write memoirs others write true-life fiction or short stories on their blogs and in magazines. Some of us share our stories in bi-weekly Zoom Circles. If you want to join me on Zoom, this is the place for you.

This circle is for you if you are a women writer and/or have writing-related podcasts, book promotion and marketing services. I want to learn from you as I learn from every woman writer in my circle. Some of us are mothers and all of us are daughters, some of our parents are ailing, and some have departed – like The Captain (my father). Some write and create on the sideline of careers in different professions. I want to introduce you to the women in my circle and tell you more about how I meet them and what we do together when you join us. If you have Memoir & Life Writing skills and want to mentor or teach memoir writing – you belong here. We share a love of journaling and life writing. Some of us often post about our writing and creative life on Instagram. Many are friends from my Artist’s Way circles. The Memoir & Life Writing Circle is our writing and creative space where we share our stories and mentor each other on the journey to become visible.

This group have been going for a while. Over the coming weeks and months, it will transform into a hub for Memoir & Life writers. If you don’t like Facebook – don’t click this link πŸ™‚

These articles are from my seven-year journey to becoming a published memoirist. That all happened while we lived in Bangkok, Athens and Cairo. I write about our life abroad, being a mother, wife, sister and daughter as well as writing, editing, publishing and marketing my memoir. These articles first appeared in my private journals or morning pages. They are my current Memoir & Life Writing.

How can I support you in writing your Life into Memoir and cheered you on while you become visible as an author? The right support has been incredibly important for me. I love all my writer-friends dearly, they know so much about me, give me emotional support and always show me something new about creative writing. Their stories are amazing. Some are coming out this year, watch out for Nest and Becoming Agent McKenna. For a short time, while I train as a memoir mentor, marketeer and developmental editor, I want to support other memoir & life writers on their journey – for free. If you know anyone who would enjoy working with t me on writing their memoirs or true-to-life fiction, please introduce us, thank you 🧑 What support do you wish you had when you started your writing journey?
